Synopsis:
This film is the charming tale of three Scottish brothers who set out to race 3,000 miles across the Atlantic in the ‘World’s Toughest Row’. It is a story, not only of adventure and perseverance, but of the importance of family and positivity in the face of adversity.
Armed with a 28ft boat and a bucket for a toilet; Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean face storms, seasickness, sleep deprivation and experienced rowing teams, which will test the strength of their brotherly bond. Out of Our Depth explores the brothers' relationship and how, despite the bickering, they support and love each other every stroke of the way.
After drifting apart in their adult lives, the challenge brings them back together, but they must wrestle with their privilege in being able to attempt the row, and how the decisions they make affect family back home. In parallel with these themes, we never lose sight of the vast scale and danger of the race itself: fewer people have rowed an ocean than have climbed Mount Everest. Even fewer have done it while playing the bagpipes. But the brothers never give up; surviving on sing-alongs, drams of whisky and laughing along the way.
